The ContrasT Team

Our team, under the supervision of Prof. Ir. Greet Kerckhofs, focuses on 3D contrast-enhanced X-ray microfocus computed tomography (CECT), which enables to visualize and structurally analyze multiple biological tissues at the same time. For now, 2D histological sectioning and staining is the gold standard for assessing biological tissues. However, it is well known that this technique has limitations with regards to the structural assessment of 3D biological tissues and to the quantification of their spatial interactions. It is also a destructive, costly, and time-consuming technique, and is mostly restricted to 2D sections. Using contrast-enhancing staining agents (CESAs), CECT can tackle these shortcomings, allowing 3D soft tissue visualization. The ContrasT Team, with a highly interdisciplinary expertise (biology, chemistry, engineering, imaging), attempts to develop and validate novel CESAs for specific tissues and proteins, and to apply them to different biological (sub)tissues.

We are a team of 10 people, joining efforts from KU Leuven and UCLouvain. Do not hesitate to check out our Twitter and LinkedIn pages for updates or to contact us in case of any question. We will be happy to help you!
